Description
Jonamac is a cross between Jonathan and McIntosh. They’re similar in taste to McIntosh, but are generally consider superior in taste with its higher sugar content and complex sweet-tart taste with a hint of honey flavour. This is an early/mid season variety and ripen one week before McIntosh apples and have good hardiness. Best for eating fresh, fruit is firm and crisp but tend to soften quickly when cooked so are not generally recommended for baking but can be used for applesauce. Jonamac are productive and an annual bearer with medium size fruit. They also make good pollinators for other varieties due to its longer bloom period.
Pollinator required: Choose another pollinator such as Gala, CrimsonCrisp, Honeycrisp, Royal Red Honeycrisp, Firestorm, Fuji and Royal Courtland.
These are 2 year-old trees that have started to branch out are grafted on dwarf G-969 rootstock with a caliber of 1/2″. Trees will reach 12-15ft in height a maturity.
