Description
Sweetheart is a premium, late-season sweet cherry renowned for its exceptional sweetness and firm texture. Developed in British Columbia, it is a cross between the ‘Van’ and ‘Newstar’ varieties and is widely considered one of the most important modern cherry cultivars.
The cherries are moderate in size with a glossy, bright-to-dark red skin and dense, juicy red flesh. They offer a “candy-sweet” flavor balanced by a refreshing tang. They also have a prized heart-shape.
Late -season variety typically ripening in late July to mid-August, about 20–22 days after ‘Bing’ cherries. This timing makes it valuable for extending the cherry season when other varieties have finished.
Can help pollinate other late season varieties including Regina, Benton, Hedelfingen and other mid-season varieties including Emperor Francis, Rainier, Stella and Lapins.
